I recently saw a Wix advertisement on television and said “Hey, I know that site.” Wix reminds me somewhat of MySpace with a lot more professionalism to it. You’re able to create and edit the page as you see fit. Since I’m a communications major I’ve used Wix in a couple of different classes and they’ve all had different request when curating the site. Some have wanted it to be extremely professional and others wanted you to add a little personality to it. I found that having a little bit of both works best for me.
I honestly don’t see myself highlighting much of the work I do for ODU. I mean I’ll have a project’s page highlighting the papers and presentations that I’ve done. I think of Wix more so for job opportunities and highlighting what I’ve done in the work environment. I want to use Wix to highlight my accomplishments and promote myself to companies. This is for me some people creating a Wix page might not have a work background to promote and they would probably really need to emphasize on school projects more so than me.
I’ve been asked almost every semester about how I can improve my Wix site and honestly I’ve ran out of ideas. I know there is always room for improvement and I also know that nothing is perfect. I think it just depends on the person who is looking at your Wix page and their views. Some may love it and others may hate it. I’ve put a countless number of hours in Wix creating and curating to exact specifications for each instructor and while sometimes it seems monotonous I know that these skills will come in handy for future projects. What’s that saying, practice makes perfect??
